In a significant flare-up of regional tensions, Pakistan engaged in small arms and artillery exchanges along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening. The situation remains fluid as more information is awaited on the developments in the contested region.

Concurrently, the Indian military reported a series of aggressive maneuvers by the Pakistani army, involving multiple airspace breaches and drone incursions over the western sector on the nights of May 7 and 8. During a news briefing, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi disclosed that Pakistani forces deployed between 300 to 400 drones at 36 different points, several of which were intercepted by Indian defenses utilizing both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies. Preliminary investigations identify the drones as Turkish-manufactured Asisguard Songar models.

Colonel Qureshi further elaborated that these incursions appeared to be orchestrated to test India's air defense responses and gather intelligence. The aggressive offense extended to the use of heavy-caliber weaponry along the LoC. Meanwhile, in a move echoing tactics used in conflicts such as the recent Hamas-Israeli exchanges, Pakistan targeted India's Jammu area with low-cost, high-volume missile salvos, a strategy seen by defense analysts as an attempted provocation.

The uptick in hostilities follows India's Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory strike aimed at nine identified terror bases within Pakistan and Pakistan-administered territories, following the Pahalgam terror attack in April. Sources report the Indian military's robust defense, thwarting numerous Pakistani drone activities, including the downing of over 50 UAVs in a strategic counter-drone operation. Additionally, a Pakistani air defense system positioned in Lahore was disabled during this broad-spectrum military clash. (ANI)
