A day after the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, which resulted in the deaths of 241 individuals, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, residents of his neighborhood recalled fond memories of the late leader. His neighbor expressed profound sadness, stating, "Vijay Rupani's presence still feels near, despite the tragedy. We celebrated every festival together. His memories will remain with us forever."

Dr. Nayan Shah, another close neighbor of Rupani, shared with ANI, "We were neighbors for over 35 years, sharing countless moments, both joyous and challenging. Our shared celebrations, from kite flying on Makar Sankranti to Holi and Diwali festivities, symbolize the togetherness we cherished." He added that the sudden absence of Rupani is difficult to comprehend.

Vijay Rupani, who was overseeing the Punjab unit of the BJP, was confirmed to have been on board the ill-fated Air India flight 171. The plane crash near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport struck the community with profound grief. Remarkably, a lone survivor, a British national of Indian descent, was found among the wreckage.

The Boeing 787-8, piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal with ample flying experience, departed Ahmedabad in the afternoon. After making a distress call post-takeoff, the aircraft tragically crashed near a resident doctors' hostel, spilling heavy smoke into the vicinity. Air India and Tata Group have announced compensation measures for the bereaved.
