In a tragic incident that unfolded on Sunday afternoon, the Indrayani River bridge in Pune district collapsed, leading to the death of four individuals and injuring 51 others. Surviving witnesses reported that a large crowd and vehicular congestion led to the structural failure of the bridge.
Efforts to rescue those affected began promptly, with District Collector Jitendra Dudi confirming the dispatch of a 250-member team. Rescue operations have successfully saved 38 people, though two victims remain missing. The deceased include Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, and Vihaan Mane, while one body still remains unidentified.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently in Cyprus, has communicated with Chief Minister Fadnavis to oversee ongoing rescue operations. In a statement, Fadnavis expressed condolences to the victims' families and affirmed that measures for relief and search efforts are being accelerated, with NDRF deployed at the site.
