The 165th Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Assam celebrated the 84th Raising Day of the Assam Regiment with a formal wreath-laying ceremony at the Regiment's War Memorial in Babupara, Imphal. Established on June 15, 1941, in Shillong, the regiment was initially formed to combat the threat posed by Japanese forces during World War II.

The Regiment symbolizes the diverse martial communities of Northeast India, drawing soldiers from various hill tribes, including the Meiteis, Nagas, Kukis, Mizos, Assamese, and Gorkhas, showcasing the valiant spirit of the region. Under the leadership of Lt. Col. Ross Howman, the 1st Battalion quickly gained recognition in World War II for their courageous stand during the Burma Campaign against Japanese forces in Jessami, Kohima, and Arakan, earning multiple battle honors and the prestigious Theatre Honour "Burma."

The 84th Raising Day ceremony at the Assam Regiment War Memorial saw a significant turnout of veterans and currently serving members of the Indian Army. Dignitaries such as Brigadier Nepraj Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Assam Rifles (S), and Colonel Samir Bharti (retd), the former commanding officer of the 165th Battalion, were in attendance. Furthermore, Assam Rifles conducted firing exercises at the Darranga Field Firing Range, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining high operational standards and combat readiness, according to an official statement.
