In the aftermath of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) demonstrated extraordinary courage, as reported by Sheetal Gujar, SDRF-ASP. Charged with the critical task, rescuers ventured into the hostile environment of the hostel building armed with oxygen masks and using wet cloths to protect their hands, in a desperate effort to save those injured in the incident.
Sheetal Gujar told ANI that the SDRF was essential in aiding those trapped inside the building after the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner disastrously impacted shortly after takeoff, claiming the lives of 241 individuals, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Rescue personnel endured severe burn risks to evacuate victims swiftly, enabled by the prompt provision of 20-30 additional ambulances within 30 minutes.
Gujar highlighted the extreme peril of the rescue mission due to soaring temperatures at the crash site. The fire department facilitated access for the SDRF team, allowing them to deliver wounded victims to safety and recover the bodies of all who perished. Despite these challenges, ensuring civilian safety and mitigating additional damage remained paramount objectives for the SDRF throughout the daunting operation.
