Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Monday visited the Mental Health Counselling Centre at the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services in Chennai's Teynampet. During his visit, he engaged in a phone conversation with a student, providing reassurance and support as part of the state's mental health initiative for students struggling with the NEET exam.

Addressing the media, Subramanian highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to support NEET candidates through mental health counseling via the 104 helpline. This initiative, active for four years, extends support not only to those who failed NEET but also to students who didn't secure a medical seat despite passing, as well as Class 12 students who did not pass their board exams. The 104 helpline also offers career guidance to students.

Subramanian revealed that 1,35,717 students appeared for NEET in Tamil Nadu this year, with 76,181 clearing the test. On Monday, the newly launched 104 helpline reached over 600 students, providing counseling with 80 mental health counselors working in shifts. Emphasizing the importance of supportive parenting, the minister urged parents to avoid pressuring their children and guide them towards alternative careers. The NEET results, declared by the National Testing Agency, showcased impressive performances, including a top rank by Rajasthan's Mahesh Kumar.
