In a series of carefully coordinated operations, the Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura has cracked down on cross-border crime, apprehending one Bangladeshi and two Indian nationals while seizing narcotics and contraband valued at more than ₹1.09 crore. The operations were part of a heightened effort to curb illegal activities along the border and within the region.
On June 18, BSF troops detained a Bangladeshi national at Ambassa Railway Station in Dhalai district, later identified as a resident of Rajshahi District, Bangladesh. Another operation by BSF troops of BOP Kamalasagar in Sepahijala district led to the seizure of a vehicle carrying 7,200 mobile display pieces worth ₹1.09 crore. In collaboration with local police, BSF further confiscated 69.5 kg of Ganja in separate house searches in the villages of Narayanpur and Babamura.
The crackdown extended beyond BSF, as Assam Rifles intercepted 170 cartons of illegal foreign cigarettes worth an estimated ₹5.1 crore near Chandrapur, Agartala. On June 17, a significant de-addiction police drive in West Tripura led to the detention of 70-80 individuals, with many found to be consuming and possessing narcotic substances. These efforts come ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and aim to combat growing drug use in the region.
