New Delhi's extradition court has approved the extradition of Naijil Paul, a fugitive facing serious charges including sexual assault, rape, and indecent communication in the United Kingdom. The accused fled the UK, arriving in India, where he was arrested in Kochi. He is currently held in judicial custody in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
The legal proceedings for Paul's extradition commenced with an application filed on December 24, 2024, and his consent facilitated the process. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pranav Joshi sanctioned the extradition order, spotlighting diplomatic channels between the Union of India and the UK government as a mode of execution.
Paul, a British citizen and Indian origin, awaits further procedures locked in judicial custody. The court's directive mandates virtual appearances every week until extradition concludes. Paul's legal team, comprised of advocates Atul Maliyan and Bibin John, stands opposite Special Public Prosecutor N.K. Matta, representing India's central government.
