The Nilambur Assembly by-election in Kerala witnessed a notable voter turnout of 70.76% by 5 PM, as reported by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala. The polling process ran smoothly, thanks to comprehensive arrangements ensuring a fair and secure election.

Malappuram District Collector VR Vinod detailed the measures in place, stating, "We have identified 14 booths as critical, with three located in forest areas. Police input led to 11 additional designations as critical. Micro observers and webcasting at all 263 polling stations guarantee transparency." He emphasized the deployment of well-trained police security personnel across the region.

"Despite seven Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) experiencing minor issues, they were swiftly replaced," he added. This by-election, held under strict security, forms part of the AC-Bye Election 2025. It sees LDF's M Swaraj, UDF's Aryadan Shoukath, and BJP's Adv. Mohan George vying for the Nilambur Assembly seat.

UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukhath is confident of a favorable outcome, critiquing the state government's neglect of Nilambur, particularly concerning tribal rehabilitation and growing human-animal conflicts. Earlier, Congress MLA VD Satheesan stated a UDF win would signal the party's resurgence in Kerala.

Speaking to ANI, Satheesan remarked, "This is a direct contest between UDF and LDF, a semi-final for the 2026 Assembly elections. We aim to hold the Pinarayi government accountable for their nine-year rule." The by-election follows the resignation of LDF's PV Anvar, who joined TMC after a split with the ruling coalition.
