Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday hailed India's strongest performance to date in the QS World University Rankings, with 54 institutions featured on the global list. This represents a remarkable 390% boost over the past decade, the highest growth among G20 nations. In 2014, just 11 Indian institutions appeared on the list, underscoring a significant leap in the past 10 years. Pradhan expressed gratitude to India's academic community for this achievement.

Highlighting the QS World University 2026 Rankings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also celebrated the increase in Indian institutions on the list. "Our education sector receives excellent news with 43 additional universities since 2014. The government remains dedicated to advancing research and innovation for India's youth," he noted. India's performance reflects its strongest-ever showing in the rankings.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi emerged as the nation's top-ranked institution, securing the 123rd spot globally and rising 27 places from the previous year. IIT Bombay and IIT Madras follow, with IIT Madras entering the top 200 for the first time. These rankings, curated by QS, cover over 1,500 universities globally, with India ranked as the fourth most represented country.
