Himachal Pradesh is on a mission to revolutionize its dairy industry with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu spearheading efforts to establish dairy cooperative societies across the state and set up six new milk plants.

The state's current count of 910 functional panchayat dairy cooperative societies is just the beginning, according to Sukhu, who emphasized the need for the department to expand these numbers. These societies are expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering employment opportunities and self-sufficiency for youth in the dairy sector.

While reviewing the progress of the Dagwar Milk processing plant in Kangra district, Sukhu expressed optimism about the project's completion by June 2026, which is set to benefit farmers in the Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, and Chamba districts. In efforts to support dairy farmers, the state has raised the MSP for cow and buffalo milk and witnessed a 17 percent rise in MILKFED's milk procurement over three years. The government is keen on promoting the 'Him-Ghee' brand from 'Pahari Cow Milk' to ensure fair prices for farmers.
