The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observes 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, sharply criticizing the Congress for its role in the political crisis. BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari demanded an apology from the Congress for the rule imposed in 1975.

Bhandari remarked on the irony of Congress leaders, who showcase reverence for the Constitution, yet are from the same lineage responsible for jailing over one lakh citizens and undermining Article 21. He highlighted the suspension of the Constitution, arguing it was purely for maintaining grip on power.

The spokesperson further recounted the atrocities, such as forced sterilizations, arrests of journalists, and crushing of free expression. He denounced the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA), comparing its authoritarian powers to colonial laws, this act led to the imprisonment of prominent figures like Atal Bihari Vajpayee during the Emergency.
