The Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) Reservoir is experiencing a steady increase in water levels, owing to rainfall in the catchment areas, Water Resource Department officials reported on Wednesday.
Currently, the dam, constructed across the Bhavani River at Bhavanisagar, is receiving an inflow of 4,966 cusecs, with a water level at 90.39 feet, just shy of its full capacity of 105 feet. The reservoir holds approximately 21.84 TMC feet of water, compared to its total capacity of 32.8 TMC feet. Authorities are discharging 1,355 cusecs for irrigation purposes in several LBP canals.
This reservoir serves as a crucial lifeline for the farmers in Erode district and adjacent parts of Karur and Tiruppur districts, irrigating 2.50 lakh acres annually. Additionally, it supplies drinking water to Sathyamangalam, Gobichettipalayam taluks, and parts of Bhavani taluk in Erode district. As the inflow continues to be promising, farmers are optimistic about having adequate irrigation water this year.
