In a dramatic rescue operation, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swiftly saved a man stranded in Jammu's River Tawi on Wednesday. The incident occurred after heavy overnight rain caused the river's water levels to rise significantly. SDRF personnel descended the stairs to reach the scene and successfully rescued the individual.
Concurrently, vehicular movement came to a halt when a landslide obstructed the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Chanderkote, particularly affecting Mehar and T2 Tunnel Marg. On Tuesday, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Scientist Bikram Singh alerted the public about active monsoon conditions across Uttarakhand, cautioning that heavy rainfall could impact districts such as Dehradun, Nainital, and Bageshwar.
Adding to the urgency, Singh informed that while continuous rain has persisted since the monsoon declaration on June 20, heavy rainfall was minimal in the past 24 hours. However, significant downpours are expected in specific regions, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue a multi-region weather alert. The alert warns of increased rainfall activity in Northwest India from June 25, with severe weather conditions forecasted for Central, East, and Northeast India over the next week.
