The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has embarked on a significant phase of internal organizational elections, marking the beginning of leadership appointments across its state units. This crucial step sets the stage for electing the national president.
Party insiders reveal that the election process across most states is projected to conclude within three weeks. However, in certain regions like Jharkhand, it may extend to the end of August. Notably, several states are set to elect their state unit presidents imminently. Once the elections in at least five states are finalized, the process to select the national president will commence in earnest.
As per the BJP's constitution, district presidents are elected post half of the party's mandals conducting elections. Similarly, state presidents follow after half the districts have held elections, while the national president's election succeeds the appointment of state presidents in at least half of the states. Currently, new state presidents have been appointed in 14 states, yet 19 more appointments are pending across 37 states and Union Territories. Upcoming announcements include Uttarakhand and Maharashtra, signaling a momentum build-up towards the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with national leadership changes anticipated soon.
