In response to a heavy rain alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), all educational institutions within the Manali and Banjar sub-divisions in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, will stay closed on Monday. The directive was announced by the Sub-Divisional Magistrates of Manali and Banjar, emphasizing concerns over public safety.
Both magistrates cited the potential dangers posed by the anticipated weather conditions, including heavy to very heavy rainfall, which could compromise the safety of students and staff. Exercising powers under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, they mandated the closure of all government and private schools, ITIs, and vocational training centers as a precautionary measure.
The state recently faced significant weather-related challenges, with 34 deaths reported since June 20. Revenue, Tribal Development, and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi confirmed that 17 people died directly from rain-related incidents. With more predicted adverse weather, authorities are taking no chances, emphasizing safety and restraint.
