In a recent appeal to the Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, Chirag Paswan, DMK Member of Parliament Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has drawn attention to the hardships plaguing mango farmers, particularly in Tamil Nadu, owing to diminishing demand spurred by GST-induced cost-cutting by beverage producers.

The communication from Kanimozhi emphasizes that farmers have been suffering from continuous financial setbacks attributed to a notable decline in the use of mango pulp by beverage manufacturers. Statistical data presented reveal a drop in pulp usage from 20% in 2022 to a mere 11% anticipated for 2024, largely due to current GST regulations.

She petitions for urgent governmental intervention to restore the mango pulp content standard to 20% and calls for rigorous enforcement of FSSAI rules to halt the misuse of product labelling, which aims to circumvent tax and regulatory obligations. (ANI)
