In a significant move towards upgrading India's defence capabilities, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, convenes this week with a monumental agenda. Proposals exceeding Rs one lakh crore aim to bolster the nation's military infrastructure amidst ongoing strategic operations like Operation Sindoor.

Sources reveal that the agenda will include a pivotal Rs 30,000 crore project featuring the DRDO's Quick Reaction Surface-to-air missile system for the Indian Army. This system promises to enhance air defence with its reach extending to 30 kilometers, signaling a robust enhancement in military preparedness.

The Indian Air Force is also pushing for advanced reconnaissance capabilities through the acquisition of three spy planes under the I-STAR program. These aircraft, to be modified by DRDO in collaboration with private sector partners, are designed to enhance intelligence and targeting capabilities. Meanwhile, the Indian Navy proposes deploying DRDO-developed Pressure-based Moored Mines at the meeting to effectively counter enemy submarines and surface threats.

Additional discussions will cover the modernization of 84 Su-30MKI fighter jets and the introduction of underwater autonomous vessels, marking the DAC's first assembly post-Operation Sindoor. The council, being the defense ministry's apex authority on capital procurements, plays a crucial role in equipping the forces for future challenges.
