Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav has launched a scathing critique of the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government concerning the alleged gang rape case at South Calcutta Law College. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Yadav expressed grave concern over women's safety in the state, remarking that conditions in West Bengal are dire and that the state government is ineffective in addressing such atrocities. He also criticised the lack of sensitivity in the statements from TMC leaders.
Yadav proposed a change in leadership, accusing the current administration of being focused on appeasement rather than public safety, indicating that regime change is crucial for Bengal's welfare. Despite the criticism, the Kolkata Police swiftly arrested the three individuals named in the FIR within 12 hours, alongside a fourth suspect based on gathered evidence.
The police have completed both medicolegal examinations and a forensic investigation of the crime scene. A Special Investigation Team leads the inquiry, promising a comprehensive and fast-tracked examination. Meanwhile, a BJP fact-finding committee, composed of former ministers and party MPs, has arrived in Kolkata to investigate the situation further in light of the alleged incident on June 25 at the South Calcutta Law College.
