The Ministry of Railways has announced a restructuring of passenger fares to improve financial sustainability, effective from July 2025. According to a release, the adjustments are detailed in the updated Passenger Fare Table by the Indian Railway Conference Association, but suburban routes and season ticket prices remain unchanged.

The fare increases differ based on class and train type. For non-AC, non-suburban services, the rise is notable in second-class fares which will see a hike of half a paisa per kilometre, with specific increases set for travels above 500 km. Similarly, sleeper and first-class fares are subject to a similar incremental change.

Mail and express services will witness slightly higher fare adjustments, with second-class rates increasing by a paisa per kilometre. AC classes, including premium services, will face a two paisa per kilometre increase. Other fees, like reservation charges, remain stable. The new fares apply to bookings post-July 1, 2025, with pre-existing ticket prices staying valid.
