Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma has called on the public and media to exercise discretion regarding the identity of the victim in the alleged gangrape case at South Calcutta Law College. The incident, described as sensitive, is currently under thorough investigation. Verma emphasized the importance of protecting the victim's identity during the investigative proceedings.
In less than 12 hours, the police managed to arrest three suspects, with a fourth detainee apprehended subsequently. Medico-legal examinations have been conducted on both the victim and the accused, while forensic experts have assessed the crime scene. A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), comprising senior officers, has been tasked with overseeing the case to ensure meticulous investigation practices are upheld.
Kolkata Police remain determined to deliver justice swiftly, ensuring those responsible face severe legal consequences. The case has also drawn significant attention, prompting a visit from a four-member BJP fact-finding committee. High-ranking officials, including ex-Union Ministers and Members of Parliament, are part of the delegation investigating the situation on the ground.
