In a development that has caught national attention, the father of one of the accused in the alleged gangrape case at South Calcutta Law College has expressed unwavering confidence in the judiciary, emphasizing that the courts will ultimately determine the next steps. He told ANI, "The matter is subjudice and investigation is underway. I have faith in the judiciary."
The father also expressed trust in the state government, police, and administration to reveal the truth, addressing speculations about his son's previous brushes with the law. He said, "I am sure the truth will come out." On June 25, a female student was reportedly gangraped inside the law college premises in Kasba, creating ripples across the state.
BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led government, accusing it of political interference in the administration and a breakdown of law and order. Bhattacharya declared, "There is a total absence of law and order. What more can we expect from politicized administration?" He accused the police of covering up evidence to protect the government.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma has urged the public and media to respect the survivor's privacy in this sensitive case, emphasizing that revealing her identity is prohibited. With the swift arrest of four suspects, the Special Investigation Team continues its work. A BJP fact-finding committee visited Kolkata to evaluate the situation, consisting of several prominent former ministers and MPs.
