In a significant leadership development, Rajendra Prasad Goyal has been reassigned the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC Limited. This strategic decision was announced by the company following directives from the power ministry. Goyal, already serving as Director (Finance), resumes the role he previously held from March 1 to August 7, 2024.
The new tenure begins on July 1, 2025, as the company navigates through a crucial phase in its operations. Goyal brings a wealth of knowledge, with over 36 years at NHPC, specializing in finance, and an intricate understanding of issues related to the construction and operation of hydropower projects.
This transition follows the retirement of Raj Kumar Chaudhary, who led NHPC as Chairman and Managing Director since August 7, 2024. In a related development, Bhupender Gupta has been recommended by the government headhunter PESB to eventually take over the top position at NHPC. Gupta presently serves as Director (Technical) at THDC India Limited.
