The government has turned its focus to modern technologies in an effort to enhance coal extraction efficiency, as fuel shortages become a relic of the past, according to Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey.
During his two-day visit to Coal India subsidiary South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), Dubey emphasized the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in ensuring coal shortages are no longer an issue. He praised SECL for implementing state-of-the-art equipment designed to improve extraction safety and efficiency.
Dubey highlighted the ambitious goal of reaching 100 million tonnes of underground coal production by 2030, utilizing advanced technologies like the Continuous Miner. However, Coal India Ltd faced an 8.5% production decline in June, producing 57.8 million tonnes compared to last year's 63.1 million tonnes, underscoring the need for further advancements.
