The flood situation in Odisha's Balasore district has led to the tragic loss of two lives as local rivers, including Subarnarekha, gradually recede, reducing the number of affected villages to 60. Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing, managed by Odisha Fire and Emergency Services, ODRAF, and the NDRF.
Heavy rains have lashed the region, courtesy of a low-pressure system, impacting villages with inundated roads and fields, further exacerbated by water released from Jharkhand dams. While damages to crops and infrastructure are reported, assessments are underway for aid distribution under the relief code.
Forecasts indicate heavy rainfall continues until July 7 due to a cyclonic circulation over south Jharkhand. Local administration remains vigilant amidst alerts, especially in regions like Koraput, with potential further rain-induced disruptions expected.
