The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has announced its plan to establish 'Milk Unions' and 'Milk Federations' in Arunachal Pradesh to bolster the state's dairy industry. This initiative kicks off with five milk unions tailored to the region's river basins, NDDB Kolkata regional head S Roy stated at a recent training event in Namsai.
The launch begins with the Lohit River basin, encompassing districts like Lohit, Namsai, and Lower Dibang Valley, and aims to extend similar efforts to Siang, Subansiri, Kameng, and Tirap basins. These unions will form the core of a state-level 'milk federation,' a move expected to unlock new opportunities in dairy and related sectors.
D Longri, the State Animal Husbandry Veterinary and Dairy Development director, stressed the importance of the survey's timely completion, setting a July 31, 2025 deadline for the Lohit basin. Longri also highlighted the need for districts to embrace dairy cooperative societies to avoid lagging in the ongoing White Revolution 2.0.
