In a recent session of the Maharashtra legislative assembly, the state government revealed that 2,289 women government employees were receiving monthly support under the Ladki Bahin scheme despite being ineligible. These ineligibilities came to light following a comprehensive scrutiny, leading to their removal from the beneficiary list.

Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare stated in a written reply that the Ladki Bahin scheme, initiated by the BJP-led administration, explicitly excludes government employees. Currently, for the fiscal year 2025-26, budgetary provisions are being met through general funds amounting to Rs 28,290 crore from her department, along with allocations from the tribal and social justice departments.

The government is also considering enabling nearly 2.4 crore women, beneficiaries of this scheme, to use their monthly Rs 1,500 installments as collateral for loans to start micro-businesses. The government plans to facilitate this by paying off the loan installments.
