Automaker Stellantis has announced a recall affecting certain diesel models in Europe due to potential camshaft chain issues. The recall affects vehicles produced between October 2017 and January 2023. In France, 636,000 cars are impacted, while an additional 117,000 are affected in Belgium, according to reports.
The recall includes vehicles from brands such as Peugeot, Citroën, Opel/Vauxhall, DS, and Fiat, specifically models equipped with the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine. Stellantis warns of premature wear on the camshaft chain, which could lead to abnormal noise or, in severe cases, chain breakage. No accidents or injuries have been reported.
Stellantis will provide a software update and oil changes as part of the rework. A specialized repairer application has been developed to detect engine noise problems. The company, formed from the 2021 merger of PSA and Fiat Chrysler, offers a policy covering parts and labor for up to 10 years for eligible repairs.
