Coal India Ltd and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) have joined forces with Heartfulness, led by Daaji, to rejuvenate closed mine sites and foster sustainable livelihoods. This strategic partnership was cemented by signing two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on July 3, 2025, at the Heartfulness headquarters in Hyderabad.

The collaboration focuses on transforming closed mine sites into sustainable ecosystems by establishing green covers, controlling hazardous emissions, and restoring soil health. This initiative aligns with the RECLAIM framework, which seeks to create livelihood opportunities for local communities while adhering to international standards for mine closure and repurposing.

The RECLAIM initiative, an acronym for Reach out, Envision, Co-design, Localise, Act, Integrate, and Maintain, serves as a comprehensive guide for community engagement and development during the mine closure journey. It emphasizes the need to restore natural systems and strengthen local institutions. The framework offers practical tools to ensure that transition processes are inclusive, equitable, and locally relevant.
