Four women-based self-help groups in Himachal's Hamirpur district will receive drones for agricultural purposes under the Centre's Namo Drone Didi initiative, officials announced on Friday.
''The agriculture department will send the names of the four active self-help groups'', District agriculture officer Rajesh Rana said. The drones will spray liquid fertilisers and pesticides in the fields, and the women from these groups will receive training on operating the drones. Each self-help group will have a leader to oversee drone operations.
The drone can easily spray 20 acres with the recent agricultural experiment, officials stated.
This scheme will create permanent business opportunities and sustainable livelihoods for the self-help groups, allowing women to earn additional income.
''Although a demand for drones was sent earlier for a Mahila Mandal from Nadaun, the Central Government has now allotted four drones to the district'', Rana added.
