The Delhi government has announced a significant increase in the gratuity limit for pensioners of the erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB). Raising the limit to Rs 25 lakh from the previous Rs 20 lakh, this change will take effect from January 1, 2024, according to a statement by Power Minister Ashish Sood.

The decision, which will benefit around 500 pensioners, addresses a longstanding demand from the DVB-Employees Terminal Benefit Fund (2002). The proposal initially discussed by the power department has now moved forward for approval and ratification by the Board of Trustees.

Minister Sood noted that the increase in the gratuity limit will incur an estimated expense of Rs 16 crore for the government, covering the period from January 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. Gratuity serves as a token of appreciation by organizations for employees' service at retirement.
