Japan is set to increase its imports of rice from the United States as a part of a bilateral trade agreement, according to NHK, Japan's public broadcaster, on Wednesday.
This move will maintain the overall structure of the 'minimum access' framework for rice imports.
Established under the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995, this framework allows Japan to import up to 770,000 metric tons of rice each year without tariff charges.
