In a significant legal development, all four accused in the shocking Kolkata law college rape case, including Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, Pramit Mukhopadhyay, and campus security guard Pinaki Banerjee, have been remanded to judicial custody until August 5. The Alipore ACJM court made this decision after the accused were presented on Tuesday. However, Mishra's lawyer, Raju Ganguly, raised serious concerns regarding his client's treatment in custody, alleging denial of basic necessities such as food and water. Moreover, Ganguly claims that Mishra is being pressured into admitting his involvement in the crime.

Raju Ganguly stated that his client is deprived of adequate food and water while in custody, severely affecting his health. Alleging coercion to obtain a confession, Ganguly has pleaded for the court to ensure Mishra's fundamental rights, requesting provisions like a mosquito net, books, and paper. The legal counsel also highlighted the obstacles in communication, urging more time to interact with the accused.

Contradicting these claims, Kolkata Police Chief Prosecutor Sourin Ghoshal contested Ganguly's allegations, asserting the defense did indeed file a bail petition. Ghoshal said the defense's applications also sought interviews with the accused in jail and a supervised visit to the crime scene. Meanwhile, the state government submitted a sealed progress report on the investigation into the gang rape of a 24-year-old law student, satisfying the victim's family with the police's efforts led by the SIT.
