Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has drawn attention to the humanitarian crisis emerging from forceful evictions in New Delhi. On Wednesday, Singh submitted an Adjournment motion to facilitate a discussion on these evictions, which he claims have impacted women, children, the disabled, and elderly individuals.
In his letter, Singh pointed out that these actions contradict governmental promises and violate constitutional rights, specifically Articles 21 and 14. He criticized the government for insensitivity, stating that such evictions, particularly in Khajuri Khas and surrounding areas, have led to a state of emergency where civil liberties are compromised.
The disruptions in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the second day of the Monsoon Session, amid Opposition protests, underscored the gravity of these concerns. Singh reiterated his objection to the demolition drives and raised further issues impacting migrants from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Purvanchal, underscoring the need for immediate governmental intervention.
