The Delhi High Court on Thursday bolstered its bench with the swearing-in of three new judges: Shail Jain, Madhu Jain, and Vinod Kumar. This move elevates the court's operational capacity to 43 judges, against a sanctioned strength of 60.
Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya led the oath ceremony, which saw attendance from sitting judges, family members, and senior legal professionals. Facilitated by central government clearance, the appointments were formally announced by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on social media, following constitutional protocol and consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
The appointments, endorsed by the Supreme Court Collegium, aim to mitigate the judicial bottleneck in Delhi influenced by a shortage of judges. Two appointments were approved on July 1, with the third on July 2, post a comprehensive evaluation. Additionally, six judges were relocated to the Delhi High Court, promising improved efficiency in judicial proceedings.
