Punjab's Massive Anti-Drug Blitz: 85 Arrested in Statewide Raids

In a sweeping statewide operation, Punjab Police have apprehended 85 drug smugglers after conducting raids at 400 different locations on Thursday. This initiative, as per an official statement from the Information and Public Relations Department, is part of a larger move to combat drug trafficking, with 60 FIRs being filed in this latest effort.
The cumulative arrests have now reached 23,237 within a span of 145 days, highlighting the ongoing intensity of the state's anti-drug efforts. Among the contraband seized were 1.6 kg of heroin, 1 kg of opium, 8,353 intoxicant tablets and pills, along with Rs 8.09 lakh in cash from those apprehended.
The crackdown was ordered by Punjab's Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav and encompassed all 28 police districts. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has issued directives to make Punjab drug-free, supported by a 5-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to oversee anti-drug strategies.
