Uniform Civil Code Stirs Change in Uttarakhand: A Tribute to Ambedkar

On Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated a landmark accomplishment during a ceremony to honor the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, held at Mukhya Sevak Sadan, within the Chief Minister's Dehradun residence.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dhami lauded the UCC as a transformative step, reflecting the aspirations of Uttarakhand's people. He acknowledged the crucial role of public support in realizing this long-cherished dream. Dhami emphasized that this move serves as a fitting tribute to Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, eradicating social discrimination by enforcing equal rights for all state residents.

Dhami highlighted the UCC's impact on women's rights, noting mandatory registration for live-in relationships as a stride towards safeguarding sisters and daughters. He expressed hope that Uttarakhand's initiative would serve as a catalyst for nationwide reform. The Chief Minister also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to commemorate November 26 as Constitution Day and efforts to develop sites linked to Ambedkar's legacy into national consciousness landmarks.

Concluding his address, Dhami underscored the state government's commitment to preserving Uttarakhand's demographic integrity through stringent laws like the anti-riot law, conversion legislation, and Operation Kalanemi.
