The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) took a significant step towards inclusivity by hosting a workshop to address the unique sanitation needs of the transgender community. Held on Monday, the session saw the community voicing demands for separate washrooms and inclusion under the PM Awas Yojana.
Additional Commissioner of Indore Municipal Corporation, Abhilash Mishra, emphasized the corporation's commitment to addressing sanitation concerns within their capacity. As part of the ongoing 'Safai Apnao Bimari Bhagao' Campaign, the IMC aims to involve diverse stakeholders, putting transgender community issues in the limelight for further discussions at various platforms.
Sandhya Ghavri, from Mera Kunba Shelter Home and Swachh Indore's brand ambassador, highlighted the importance of raising awareness about transgender rights and facilities. Ghavri demanded the community's inclusion as PM Awas beneficiaries, improved shelter options, and the need for dedicated transgender toilets to ensure dignified living.
