In the backdrop of an ongoing parliamentary session, BJP leader Baijayant Panda took aim at Congress, implicitly censuring its leadership for inhibiting outspoken members like Shashi Tharoor. During a Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor on Monday, Panda remarked that while Tharoor speaks eloquently, party dynamics often constrain him.
As proceedings in the Lok Sabha touched on national security operations, Panda praised the successful Operation Mahadev by Indian forces against terrorism, highlighting the neutralization of those involved in past attacks. Meanwhile, Tharoor hinted at not participating in the debate, maintaining a 'maunvrat' or vow of silence as discussions unfolded.
Panda spared no criticism for the previous UPA administration, accusing them of failing to respond effectively to terror threats from Pakistan. Citing incidents like the 2008 Mumbai attacks, he underscored allegations that leadership back then chose dialogue over reprisal, letting terrorists operate with impunity.
