The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, under the leadership of Professor B S Sahay, has launched a significant cultural initiative called 'Bandhan - A Cultural Immersion with Local Family of Jammu' at the Mandapam Auditorium, Jagti Campus. This pioneering step is designed to promote emotional connection, social learning, and celebration of the Dogri heritage unique to the Jammu region.
'Bandhan', rooted in Jammu, the City of Temples, represents IIM Jammu's commitment to social sensitisation, community bonding, and the celebration of Dogri culture. This initiative will see 412 first-year MBA students grouped and hosted by local families, a testament to the program's depth and community support, with over 100 families participating from the start.
The inauguration included a traditional tilak, garlanding, and arti ceremony, signifying mutual respect, followed by a tour of IIM Jammu's facilities. Prof. B.S. Sahay, IIM Jammu Director, expressed the institute's vision of being 'Mini India with a Global Vision', underscoring the importance of cultural empathy and Dogra heritage within the initiatives of Bandhan.
Esteemed dignitaries like Padma Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri and Lt. Gen. Rakesh Kapoor (Retd.) praised the initiative as a cultural bridge and a testament to IIM Jammu's excellence. Participants emphasized the need for deeper cultural immersion, sharing stories of Jammu's rich history and the importance of preserving its traditions.
Students will engage in cultural activities and reflective sessions that deepen their understanding of Jammu traditions and socio-economic realities, fostering empathy and cultural awareness.
