The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police has apprehended two individuals for orchestrating a large-scale fraud under the pretense of a government initiative. The duo targeted vendors, deceiving them into providing goods for the Rashtriya Gramin Saksharta Mission, subsequently absconding with funds worth crores of rupees, as revealed by police statements.
The tactics involved promises of lucrative tenders to supply school uniforms. However, after receiving the goods, payments were never made, leaving the vendors defrauded. Evidence shows a fake website and bank account under RGSM were used to facilitate the theft of approximately Rs 3.5 crore by the accused for personal expenditure.
In addition to the arrests, police seized significant evidence, including two truckloads of school uniforms valued at Rs 1.5 crore. The suspects, bearing a criminal history, are on remand as investigations into further similar complaints continue. Authorities stress the complexity of such schemes and the ongoing efforts to purge them.
