In a significant escalation of tensions along the maritime borders, the Sri Lankan Navy has arrested five fishermen from Rameswaram, accusing them of crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line. The detained individuals were apprehended while fishing in the Gulf of Mannar and have been taken to the Mannar Navy camp for questioning.

According to NJ Bose, State Secretary of the Fishermen Association, 360 boats had set sail from Rameswaram despite increasing concerns over repeated boundary violations by the Sri Lankan Navy. Among those detained were residents from Thangachimadam, Rameswaram, and Pamban.

The local fishing community has expressed growing unrest, citing this arrest as part of a broader pattern of harassment. Just a week prior, four fishermen from Rameswaram experienced a similar fate, raising questions about the effectiveness of Indian naval protection efforts.
