The Indian defence landscape marked a significant milestone as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted two consecutive flight tests of the Pralay Missile. Held at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha's coast, these tests took place on July 28 and 29, 2025, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence.
The tests, key to user evaluation trials, aimed to validate the missile's maximum and minimum range capabilities. Following precise trajectories, the missiles achieved their targets with pinpoint accuracy, fulfilling all test objectives. These results were confirmed by data from various tracking sensors as well as ship-mounted instruments deployed near the impact zone. The MoD highlighted the Pralay's advanced design, which incorporates indigenous solid propellant technology and state-of-the-art guidance systems for high precision.
Developed by the Research Centre Imarat alongside several DRDO labs and industry partners such as Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, the missile can carry a range of warhead types. Its technological innovations provide a strategic edge to the Indian Armed Forces. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat applauded this achievement, underscoring the system's imminent induction into the military arsenal.
