The Indian government has cancelled renewable energy procurement tenders totaling 11,400 MW, a decision attributed to challenges including low participation and high discovered tariffs, Parliament was informed on Tuesday.

Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, explained that tenders issued by key agencies like SECI, NTPC, NHPC, and SJVN encountered multiple hurdles that led to their cancellation.

Efforts are underway to streamline processes, with amendments to bidding guidelines and initiatives to enhance coordination between tender issuance and power sale agreements, alongside steps to expedite Renewable Consumption Obligation compliance.
