South African farmers are poised for a bountiful 2024/2025 maize harvest, with a predicted 17% increase over the previous season, according to the government's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC).
The CEC's sixth summer crop forecast projects the maize yield to reach 15.031 million metric tons, surpassing the 12.85 million metric tons harvested in the prior cycle.
This bumper crop includes 7.736 million tons of white maize for human consumption and 7.295 million tons of yellow maize primarily for animal feed.
