In a heart-wrenching incident, 25-year-old chartered accountant Dheeraj Kansal ended his life by inhaling gas in a hotel room in New Delhi's Bengali Market area. The police confirmed that Kansal had been grappling with loneliness since his father's demise in 2003 and his mother's subsequent remarriage.
Kansal, who had no siblings and lived in a paying guest house in Mehrauli, conveyed his intention to commit suicide on social media. A suicide note, found in his left pocket, elaborated on his lack of connection with people and his lifelong isolation.
The police were alerted by hotel staff when Kansal's room remained locked for an unusual duration. Upon entry, a helium gas cylinder with plastic pipes was discovered. Kansal's tragic decision underscores the dangers of helium inhalation, which causes a fatal lack of oxygen. His family, including his uncle and cousins, have been notified.
