The arrest of two Kerala-based nuns at Durg Railway Station in Chhattisgarh has ignited a political storm. Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrashekhar clarified that the nuns were not involved in trafficking or religious conversion, asserting that they were accompanying women who had family's consent for employment.
As Rajeev Chandrashekhar remained hopeful for justice, Opposition parties accused the BJP of targeting Christian minorities. Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel and others have actively pursued the issue, highlighting their efforts to meet the detained nuns, amid accusations of religious persecution by right-wing groups.
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India condemned the incident, citing reports of the nuns being assaulted despite having parental permission for their presence. The incident has further intensified political debate, drawing criticism against the handling by Chhattisgarh's authorities.
