Turkey is actively seeking partnerships with Russia, China, Canada, and South Korea in a bid to expand its nuclear energy capabilities, with the first reactor at the Akkuyu site projected to be operational by 2026, according to Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar on Wednesday.

In an interview with Anadolu news agency, Minister Bayraktar revealed plans to present a draft law concerning small modular reactors (SMRs) to parliament following the summer recess. The law is intended to provide incentives and support for SMR development.

These discussions mark Turkey's strategic push to enhance its energy sector, aiming to diversify its energy sources and foster international collaborations in nuclear technology.
