In an ambitious stride towards environmental conservation, Gujarat's Forest Department has embraced Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's vision by initiating a large-scale plantation drive. The innovative approach targets roadside, coastal highways, and vacant lands, aiming to augment the state's green cover.
This announcement, detailed in an official release, explains the department's plans to plant approximately 7.63 lakh saplings under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The initiative received a significant boost with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Gandhinagar, attended by CM Patel, Forest and Environment Minister Mulubhai Bera, and Minister of State Mukesh Patel.
Supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, this project is a step towards climate change mitigation and increasing greenery. The Harit Van Path Yojana, which envisions extensive roadside planting, is central to fulfilling these aspirations. This scheme not only enhances ecological safety but also propels the state towards its Sustainable Development Goals.
As part of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, an MoU was sealed between the Manav Seva Charitable Trust and the Forest Department, aiming to plant 40,000 saplings along major roadways, including routes from Dwarka to Somnath. This collaborative approach will mobilize the plantation of 7.63 lakh saplings in strategic areas.
Key figures such as Additional Chief Secretary M K Das and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Dr. A P Singh, along with representatives from the Manav Seva Charitable Trust, marked their presence at the MoU ceremony, reaffirming the commitment to Gujarat's ecological advancement. (ANI)
