In a notable development, the Ministry of Women and Child Development announced a striking 40.23% increase in support under non-institutional care services for children from 2023-24 to 2024-25. The surge underscores a strategic shift towards family and community-based alternatives.

Minister of State for WCD, Savitri Thakur, highlighted this exponential rise while addressing a query in the Rajya Sabha. The fiscal year 2024-25 witnessed 1,70,895 children receiving support through sponsorship, foster care, and after-care arrangements.

Mission Vatsalya, the government's comprehensive child protection program, extended support to an additional 76,882 children through institutional care. This initiative aims at rehabilitation and reintegration of vulnerable children, reinforcing the Ministry's commitment to child welfare.
